Anna Maria was one of 6 children, her father was John Mitford or Mitford Castle. The children had two homes: Hunmanby Hall in Yorkshire, (part of a rich inheritance that had become Mitford property through an Osbaldeston marriage,) and Mitford Hall, a lovely ancestral home where the Wansbec River loops to hold the village and castle in its embrace.
Sketch of Mitford Hall At the time of the Norman Conquest the barony of Mitford was held by Sir John Mitford, and it is know that the family had an estate in Mitford as early as the days of Edward the Confessor.
The Bowker Cemetery on Tharfield, Anna Maria Bowker's (nee Mitford) marker is on the far right
