Bertram |
1810-1907. Son of Miles
Bowker, he took part in the campaign against the M'fecani in
1828 and served in the Corps of Guides in the war of 1834-1835.
he was marrid in 1838 to Ann, daughter of Richard Simpson. In
the war of 846-1847 he was Commandant, Mill River Station ans
was in charge of the laager at Oackwell in the war of
1850-1953. he was commandant of the Rovers in the war of 1877.
In 1879 he was Memeber of the Legislative Council for Eastern
Province. He died at Johannesburg and left his written
Reminiscences.

John |
1801-1847. Son of Miles
Bowker, he joined his father in Lower Albany in 1822. He took
part in the campaign against Provisional Colonial Infantry in
the war of 1834-1835, being appointed Resident Agent with the
Fingo Settlerment near Fort Peddie. He was signatory to the
Treaty with the Gaika Chiefs at King Wiliam's Town in 1836. He
was married in 1837 to Mary Standen. In the war of 1846-1847 he
was Commandant, Lower Koonap River Burghers and Field-Cornet,
Fish River in 1847. He died at Oakwell. Some of his speeches
and letters were published.

Mary |
1818-1899. Daughter of
Miles Bowker, she sailed in "Weymouth" in 1820. She was married
in 1842 to Frederick, son of Thomas Barber. She opened a school
for girls at Grahamstown in 1844. As a botanist she assisted
Dr. W. Harvey in the compilation of his Thesaurus Capensis. She
died at Pietermaritzburg, leaving her poems and drawings.

Miles |
1759-1839. Born at
Gateshead he was married to Ann Mitford. He led a party of
Settlers from Wiltshire, sailing in "Weymouth" in 1820. He was
an Assistant Magistrate in 1821. Interested in botany he was
sending indigenous bulbs from Lower Albany to the Government
Secretary as early as 1826. In that year he bought merino rams
for a wool flock. He died at Tharfield and was buried there.

1812-1892. Son of Miles
Bowker, he sailed in "Weymouth" in 1820. He took part in the
campaign against the M'fecani in 1828. He was married in 1838
to Sarah, daughter of Lieutenant Robert hart, Cape Regiment and
served in the war of 1850-1853. He was member of the House of
Assembly for Somerset Eat in 1854. He died at Craigie Burn.

Bowker, he sailed in "Weymouth" in 1820. He served in the wars
of 1834-1835 and 1850-1853. He was a founder member of the
Eastern Province Agricultural Society in 1840. He was married
in 1853 to Frances Forward. He died at Alstonfields.

1808-1885. Son of Miles
Bowker, he sailed in "Weymouth" in 1820. he took part in the
capaign against the M'fecani in 1828 and served as Lieutenant,
Provisional Colonial Infantry in the war of 1834-1835, as
Captain, Grahamstown Native Levy in the war of 1846-1847 and as
Commandant of Burghers at Whittlesea in that of 1850-1853. He
was Resident Magistrate, Kat River Settlement in 848 and was
married in 1854 to Julia, daughter of John McGowan of London,
being also Member of the House of Assembly for Albany. In 1858
he made a collection of Stone Age tools now in the Albany
Museum. He was Secretary to the Land Commission on the Diamond
Fields in 1872. He died at Tharfield and was buried there.

Bowker, he took part in the campaign against the M'fecani in
1828, was Commandant, Corps of Guides in the war of 1834-1835
being mentioned in dispatches and appointed Commissioner for
Native Locations. He was Commandant, Thorn Kloof Station in the
war of 1846-1847 and Field-Commandant, Somerset Volunteers in
that of 1850-1853. He was Field-Cornet, North Fish River in
1858 and Member of the |

**Anna Maria was born onboard the S. Weymouth in Algoe Bay which is now
